Sports News: The controversy that erupted between India and Pakistan in the 2025 Asia Cup continues unabated. Another incident has added a new twist to the drama that has been brewing for the past three weeks. Suryakumar Yadav has once again insulted Pakistan before the final. India secured its place in the final by remaining undefeated in the ongoing Asia Cup. The final is scheduled to be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 28. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will face arch-rivals Pakistan, whom it has defeated twice in the current tournament.
Interestingly, both matches made headlines more for off-field controversies than for the cricket itself. Tensions escalated after the group stage match on September 14th when Indian players refused to shake hands with Pakistani players after the match. This action caused uproar within the team captained by Salman Agha.
The captain boycotted the post-match presentation in protest. Instead of Agha, head coach Mike Hesson represented the team at the press conference. The controversy escalated further when Pakistan threatened to withdraw from the tournament if match referee Andy Pycroft was not removed as referee for the next match against the UAE.
However, the ICC stood its ground and rejected Pakistan's demands. The second week saw new drama. India won the second match between the two teams on September 21st, securing a resounding six-wicket victory, and another incident of a lack of handshakes occurred.
However, some on-field incidents also drew attention this time. The BCCI filed an official complaint against Pakistani batsman Sahibzada Farhan for his controversial 'gun shot' celebration after reaching his half-century and Haris Rauf for making provocative gestures while fielding.
Following a review by match officials, Haris Rauf was fined 30% of his match fee for violating the ICC Code of Conduct. Farhan was issued a stern warning but escaped a financial penalty. Meanwhile, Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav was also fined 30% of his match fee for his post-match comments on September 14.
This three-week-long drama took a new turn on Saturday, September 27th. India refused to participate in the Asia Cup 2025 final photoshoot with Pakistan. This will certainly add a new twist to Sunday's match, as India will be looking to win, just like the previous two times.
